The central BI and analytics team has a lot of visibility into the different data sets people are using and how they are building their worksheets or dashboards because they are able to see what's popular, what's not, what maybe is coming from sanctioned sources versus we call more unsanctioned sources. They can keep a good eye on things. So it's enabling people to continue to explore their data in an unfettered manner, but also helps people to be able to get really good visibility into what data is being used to make decisions and standardizing data definitions and those things. And yeah that was the use case I wanted to highlight. We've have some other really fantastic partners playing in the space because it's one that's very hot right now. Cloud BI Service - Even in established organizations that have established on-premises systems they're looking at building a new cloud BI service and particularly around analytics often to take advantage of the data gravity. The gravity being that lots of the data already in the clouds. They want to move analytics to the cloud and take advantage of it, as I mentioned here, point technology using in database processing. You've got powerful platforms out there. Why not use them effectively for churning through analytics and even for data preparation, ETL kind of activities to support analytics. We see a lot of trending towards that being able to use the parallel processing and more powerful platforms in the cloud for this. Then the other thing to mention about Cloud of courses is it's not one Cloud but many Clouds and multi-cloud. We see most organizations are using the big ones: Amazon, Microsoft, Google, but certainly even others, multi-clouds sometimes. It just works out that way that they're moved into the Cloud in different parts of the organization, moved to different Cloud systems, or it's by design because they want to avoid vendor lock-in and platform lock-in and have some flexibility there. This is certainly a feature of the Cloud these days that it isn't necessity of having analytics. It will be portable and going to solutions that can support multiple different clouds so not just one, but certainly the big ones out there if not others as they come along. Cloud BI Tool - What is it that business users can do in the spreadsheet that they potentially cannot do in your desktop BI tool or cloud BI tool that you provide? Find out, and then you need to make some hard decisions. You don’t really want to limit them. What is it that a BI tool needs to have to basically close all the gaps in functionality, between their features and what Excel. Empower your business users with their own sandboxes. Then empower them with capabilities to share their content with their colleagues with as little involvement from IT as possible, and then empower yourself. Empower your BI support organization with the ability to monitor what these people do, and selectively, proactively and reactively promote that content to production. Compare the Traditional BI Approach with Agile BI - We’re going to talk about the traditional waterfall approach in detail and contrast that and compare that with the agile and scrum approaches and really dive in deep from that perspective. Let’s think about the way that tools work in our BI methodologies and how we have deliver things historically. We go through these different phases, and we have to build different components of the solution. If we think about the people and the processes that the traditional waterfall methods entail, what we end up doing is creating a lot of our requirements either in Word or Excel and doing a lot of data entry, and then we go to the analyst. In the analysis phase we may do the same thing, and so we do a lot of redundant work. We do a lot of Excel work and do our maps, and we build it to a data modeling tool and rekey again. There is a lot of interpretation and discussion and paper passing back and forth and as we begin to deploy the solution through the different phases and build the different components.
